TL;DR: One Piece has roughly 100 filler episodes out of 1,100+. The main filler arcs are Warship Island (54–61), Post-Alabasta (131–143), G-8 (196–206), Ocean's Dream (220–228), Thriller Bark side content (326–336, 382–384), and Little East Blue (406–407). Skipping all filler loses nothing from the main story — but G-8 is widely considered worth watching.
What Counts as Filler?
Filler episodes are anime-original content not adapted from the manga. In One Piece, filler falls into two categories:
- Filler arcs — multi-episode storylines with original plots inserted between manga arcs
- Filler episodes — individual episodes added within manga-based arcs, often slowing pacing
The post-Wano era (episodes 1086+) stays much closer to the manga with minimal filler, as the production team adjusted pacing after fan feedback.
Complete Filler Arc List
Warship Island Arc — Episodes 54–61
Skip or watch? Skip.
An early arc involving a dragon named Ryuuji. Tonally inconsistent with the series at this point. Nothing from this arc carries forward.
Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles — Episodes 46–47
Skip or watch? Skip.
Short Buggy filler inserted into the Loguetown arc. Safe to skip.
Post-Alabasta Arc — Episodes 131–143
Skip or watch? Skip.
Six individual crew member vignettes placed after Alabasta. Each Straw Hat gets a short solo adventure. None are canon. Watch if you enjoy the characters and want extra content, but no story relevance.
Goat Island Arc — Episodes 136–138
Skip or watch? Skip.
An old man on a deserted island. Forgettable.
Ruluka Island / Rainbow Mist Arc — Episodes 139–143
Skip or watch? Skip.
Involves a mysterious mist and a young version of a character. Interesting concept but non-canon.
G-8 Arc — Episodes 196–206
Skip or watch? Watch — best filler in the series.
Set immediately after Skypiea. The crew lands accidentally inside a Marine base and has to escape. Widely beloved by fans — it uses the core cast well, the writing quality is unusually high for filler, and it doesn't drag. If you skip all other filler, consider watching this one.
Ocean's Dream Arc — Episodes 220–228
Skip or watch? Skip.
The crew loses their memories. Resolved within the arc. No lasting effects.
Foxy's Return Arc — Episodes 225–228
Skip or watch? Skip.
Mini-arc involving the Foxy Pirates returning. Even many non-filler Foxy content is considered weak by the fanbase.
Ice Hunter Arc — Episodes 326–336
Skip or watch? Skip.
A bounty hunter crew chases the Straw Hats. Placed between Thriller Bark and Sabaody. Nothing canon.
Spa Island Arc — Episodes 382–384
Skip or watch? Skip.
Three-episode filler. No story value.
Little East Blue Arc — Episodes 406–407
Skip or watch? Skip.
Tie-in to the One Piece Film: Strong World movie. The movie itself is non-canon (but enjoyable). The arc is skippable unless you're watching the film.
Z's Ambition Arc — Episodes 575–578
Skip or watch? Skip (watch if seeing Film Z).
Tie-in to One Piece Film Z. Standalone, no story effect.
Caesar Retrieval Arc — Episodes 626–628
Skip or watch? Skip.
Brief arc between Punk Hazard and Dressrosa. No canon content.
Silver Mine Arc — Episodes 747–750
Skip or watch? Skip (watch if seeing Film Gold).
Tie-in to One Piece Film Gold.
Marine Rookie Arc — Episodes 780–782
Skip or watch? Skip.
Post-Zou, pre-Whole Cake. Filler.
Cidre Guild Arc — Episodes 895–896
Skip or watch? Skip (watch if seeing Stampede film).
Tie-in to One Piece: Stampede movie.
Wano Act 1 Pacing Episodes
Wano has extended pacing in the anime — several early episodes stretch single manga chapters into full episodes with added scenes. These aren't filler but are slower than the manga. Switching to manga at chapter 909 is an option if anime pacing frustrates you.

Total Filler Count
Approximately 10–12% of all episodes are filler or filler-adjacent. One Piece has significantly less filler than comparable long-running anime (Naruto: ~40%, Bleach: ~45%).
Should You Watch the Movies?
One Piece films are generally non-canon but many are high-quality standalone stories. Recommended watches:
- Film Z — excellent antagonist, great action, considered the best film
- Stampede — fan-service heavy but enjoyable, features many characters
- Red — musical, emotional, directly references Shanks; contains Final Saga setup (treat as loosely canon-adjacent)
- Strong World — Oda-supervised; feels closest to the main series
None are required. None affect your understanding of the manga.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does skipping filler affect anything? No. All filler is self-contained. Characters do not reference filler events in canon episodes.
Is the Wano arc as long in the anime as people say? Yes — Wano is approximately 200 episodes in the anime vs. roughly 150 manga chapters. The anime expands scenes, adds flashbacks, and pads action sequences. Reading the manga from chapter 909 is the fastest option.
Are recap episodes counted as filler? Not in this list, but the anime occasionally runs recap episodes (especially after long breaks). These are safe to skip and are easy to identify by their lack of new story content.
